The Town of Cave Creek is located in northern MaricopaCounty and is bounded by Phoenix to the west and the south, Carefree to the east, and Scottsdale to the southeast.  It is approximately 31 square miles, and has easy access to the I-17 and 101 freeways, Scottsdale Municipal Airport, Deer Valley Airport and Sky Harbor InternationalAirport.  This unique and colorful town was settled in the 1870s, but was not incorporated as a municipality until 1986.  It is named for the small stream that originates in the hills to the northeast of the town, and a high, overhanging bluff along the west bank of the stream.  Cave Creek’s early days were characterized by hardy frontiersman, miners of gold and copper, and adventurists.  Their mines were named Mormon Girl, Golden Star, Blue Boy, New Hope, and Cave Creek Mistress, and provide endless hours of exploration today. The history of the “Old West” in Cave Creek is reflected and preserved today in special events throughout the year, as well as unique retail shops, quirky antique and curio parlors, restaurants, museums and galleries that dot the streets.  Although increased urban growth throughout the Valley has brought Cave Creek into the 21st century, this town of approximately 4,000 residents still has a small town western feel.
